Startup Lunch, the recruiting event which is loosely based on the concept of speed dating, is finally coming to Hyderabad. The scheduled date for the event is 23rd August.

Hyderabad has seen a lot of growth, in terms of start ups, in the last couple of years. Naturally, all start ups require good hardworking people, willing to put in that extra effort to make the venture successful. This event is an excellent opportunity for start ups as well as those willing to work for another. You can also check out the presentation uploaded on Slideshare.

Successful Startup Lunches had been held at Bangalore, Chennai, Pune and Delhi (which is going to conduct its third start up lunch soon).

Why should you, as a prospective team member, be part of this initiative?

1. One to many interface - One event, many start ups. Imagine the amount of time you would save by meeting them all in one place?

2. Align with your interests - Given the number of start ups and the interaction with their top management, you can decide which one to go with!

3. It's cost effective and helps you meet other people with similar interests.

Why should the startup be part of this initiative?

1. It's cost effective - Bulk recruiting solutions don’t work and customized recruitment is too expensive. This is the middle path - a relatively cost effective way of reaching a group of interested people.

2. It's targeted - Finding the "Eureka" person is tough. This helps enterprises get in touch with those who want to take the risk.

3. It's convenient- A meeting over lunch, a couple of hours to meet a great gang for working or hanging out with

Startup Lunch is an initiative of Proto.in and is being held on the 23rd of August at the Intellecap Office in Hyderabad. All the contact details can be obtained from the wiki itself.

Being stuck in Pilani, it's a pity I can't attend the event.

For those of you who are content with their jobs and would rather engage in something else, head over to the Google office by 10 AM for a workshop on Cloud Computing! This one is packed with speakers from abroad and biggies back home.

Removing Blogrolls!

Saturday, June 07, 2008 1
Innovation seems to be the most used jargon word in today's world (entrepreneurship loses out by a whisker). Every day I see newer feed reading products in their beta stages get their twitter accounts and advertise endlessly and find newer ways to make people use their products. The other day Nayak was telling me about a feedreader called Fresh and about a Twitter client called Alert thingy. Simultaneously I have been checking out a lot of new products too.

All this has made me think. Do we still need traditional blogrolls? Blogger Buzz updates me with this:
Today we’re releasing a new page element for Layouts blogs: Blog List. The Blog List improves on our Link List page element by using blogs’ RSS and Atom feeds to show update times, post titles, and snippets.
And this works well with podcasts, twitter accounts etc too.

But now the question arrives, what if I have a huge list of feeds that I follow on my reader? And I have a list of friends on my blogroll who don't really update.

This is what I do.

One way or the other I do keep on checking blogs that are relevant to me(either students from my college or people I have met or people who link to me), but you don't really need a blogroll for that. (Google status messages, Technorati etc are helpful there). So in order to give my sidebar a more virgin look, I am cleaning up my blogroll and on leaving behind very very few links, mostly because, they're the only ones updating/or if they are really close pals.

Invest in GOOGLE!

Google's cache is just amazing man!
I found a poem, written by moi, which was published in The Hindu during the whole NIE(Newspaper in Education) phase and which I thought had gone astray forever, for I lost the only hard copy that I had(misplaced would be misnomer). Years down the line, I type in my name into the coveted search box(just a regular ego search) and voila! Guess what I find?
A poem written by me when I was in class VIII(always had a little bit of a fascination with roman numerals).

Though the cache can have its repurcussions later on. Imagine blasting someone(boss maybe?) on a personal blog, you know just a regular vent of fury and then later realizing that it was all a big mistake once the head has been cooled. But those words will be etched for the world to see and you cant take them off( Techies, can they?). So think hard before you hit that publish button!
